Eep! that was a rather long post...longest ever I think!

Well, it was a long and boring drive up to Durham, we stopped off for lunch at Hardwick Hall, which is a rather large stone mansion, sorta like the ones in thief, with about half the wall being windows! (which was very very expenisve when it was built) We got into Durham and found our hotel eventually, it was sorta hiding next to the bus station. I had my own hotel room, with a TV and a Bathroom :D Was a bit small though, but was ok.

My Parents and I then went off to look round Durham before meeting a friend from the internet at the cinema. We went to this really good Chinese place, the food was really yummy :) While we were there this group of rather rowdy people turned up asking for a table, the restaurant was rather heavily booked and they said that they could have a table but they had to leave in 1 hour, as that was when the table was booked for. These people then ordered a HUUUGE meal, with starters, that crispy duck and pancakes and main courses, which would take longer than an hour to cook and eat. Dunno how it turned out though, as we left then, with the waiters looking really nervous and wondering what to do.

After that we went off to the cinema, and were a bit early. I got my ticket and waited around for Paz (he is renowned on the net for his rather large amount of hair.) I saw a person standing in front of the cinema who LOOKED just like him, but I was a bit nervous about walking up to him, so I waited a minute or so before walking up to him and saying "Hi your Paz?" which felt rather odd. Luckily it was him! (Hurrah!) as no-one else has his pony-mane locks of hair :p

The film was "Engima" which is a very good film set it the Second World War in Bletchly Park, which was the British code-breaking centre during the war. Its largely fictitious of course, but then it wouldn't be as good without the added romance and intrigue :p After the film I went to have a look round Durham with Paz, went to McDonalds to get some chips and Paz started claiming that the box they have next to the counter for charity to "change children's lives" infact was used to abduct them and have them ground into meat by an insidious capitalist plot involving goldfish O_o Anyway, we then wondered around Durham for a while, chatting and stuff and I was assassinated, twice! Some taffers in a car did a drive by shooting with a water pistol! Luckily I was wearing a waterproof coat so I wasn't soaked.

Then I walked back to the hotel, and watched the film "Jackie Brown" on the TV for the second time, but as the first time was on a French exchange in a French cinema, and in French, I had no idea what it was about! It was good to finally see what everyone was talking about the whole time :)

On Sunday we went to have a look round Grey college, which is the one I have applied to. Its very nice, and has good facilities for the students, and is ALSO the closest college to the science blocks, so I get an extra few mins in bed each day if I go there :) We then had a look round the botanic gardens, it was raining a lot, but it had these nice glasshouses full of cati and stuff to look at. There were a couple of budgies in one of them, and they did this thing where they swooped down on anyone who walked underneath their perch and started pecking their hair! O_o. Rather odd really :p

Then on Monday we just drove back which took AGES, and came home to find our Freezer broken :/ My Mum has gone into Kinston today to buy a new one, as this one has had it really.

I will be going scuba diving tommorow :) should be fun I hope, and after that I am going off to Durham on the weekend, to look around and see if I want to go to uni there and stuff, then next week is half-term, so me and some friends will have a LAN thingy, on thursday-->Saturday which should be fun :)

Well that went all right, but went on longer than expected as more parents came to have a look than normal. The infra-red thingy behaved itself, but the gas thingy played up a lot and basically didn't work AT ALL. So we had to turn the gain control up and down to make it LOOK like there was a graph being plotted on the screen, when really it was just us using it like an etach-a-sketch O:) None of the parents noticed that though, luckily :)

My rugby match tommorrow has been cancelled as the other side can't raise a team. Prolly as they are scared of our feresome reputation ;) But as tommorrow is the school open day, I have been recruited to help with that instead.

I am helping with the chemistry department, operating the infra-red spectrometer and the gas chromatography machine. The infra-red spectrometer lets you identify the chemical bonds within your compound, in pretty much the same way as you can determine the resonant frequency of a glass by singing at it until it starts vibrating, but using infra-red light and chemical bonds instead.

The gas chromatography machine just races your chemical round some tubes and stuff and dependingon wheather you get the stuff all coming out at once, or in two or more peaks tells you how pure your chemical is and how many contaminates there are.

I hope you all understand that, as I prolly didn't explain it very well. I gotta practise to explain it to all the parents at the open day tommorrow, to try to convince them to send their children to my school ;)

... my stupid printer decided to completly die last night, which was NOT helpfull. And the school computer room is all locked up as someone hacked into them and screwed them over. Luckily I managed to print off my chemistry project from this library computer which is still working.
